Our neighborhood falls in both the City of Atlanta and Fulton County. There are a set of property taxes associated with the City and another with the County. Both are summed up in a bill you get yearly – usually in the fall (September/Octover). You can easily search for your tax bill to understand past and current bills (pick real estate, street address, put in your address and select last year). It should bring up all of the historical bills for your property and show you if there is any due now. Things to know: 1) yearly the property might change in value upward – you can appeal this – there is a process; 2) you can file for a homesteading exemption (and various other exemptions) if they apply to you and it can reduce the taxable value of the property – there are many types of exemptions that depend on age, income and other factors too involved for a simple FAQ here but if appropriate to you could be worth looking into.
